Our Story

It all began with Harry and Jim

It was 1935 when two brothers, Harry and Jim White, set up shop in Ewell, Surrey. The two lads were already successful pig farmers and, with a bit of help from their father, they were able to open a pork butchers farm shop selling their own produce.

Both the brothers shared a passion for sausages and set about making the best sausages money could buy. Using an old family recipe, honed by many an hour experimenting in the kitchen, they finally created the perfect sausage: one plain and simple, the other spicy.

With a solid reputation for quality, it wasn't long before the White brothers' sausages were available through high street butchers across Surrey – with generations of children growing up on the famous Surrey sausage.

On to the next generation

By the early 1970s it was time for Harry and Jim to hang up their aprons and Jim's son, Graham, to take over. Born and bred on the family's sausages, there wasn't much Graham didn't know about sausages.

Graham was – and still is – every bit as passionate about producing quality sausages based on solid, traditional family values. He cares deeply about the heritage of the business and the legacy his dad and his uncle (with a bit of help from granddad) had created.

Over the next few decades, Graham took the humble family sausage from Surrey on an impressive journey. They were served on Concorde, to British Airway's First Class passengers and on Virgin Upper Class. They became a favourite amongst the well–heeled clientele of Fortnum & Mason and Harvey Nichols' food hall and were even served at the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla.

Into the 21st century

By the turn of the century, there were two more names to add to the Porky White family tree. Graham's daughter, Alix, joined the company and former Saturday–boy, Chris Price, was made Managing Director. Very much part of the family and a White in all but name, Chris joined the company aged just 13 – in fact, he tried to join at age 12 but Graham told him to wait a year.

And finally onto a supermarket shelf near you

Together, Graham and Chris have taken Porky Whites on the next stage of their journey, introducing the Surrey Chipolatas, Originals and Anniversary Specials to the range, and finally taking their much–loved sausages to a supermarket near you.
