Forget Christmas, Easter and your goldfish’s birthday, the most important date in the calendar is fast approaching. Because July 23rd has been officially declared National Hot Dog Day.
Thursday July 23rd is the day the world will be a homage to the King of sausages, mustard, ketchup and onions (not forgetting the majestic, but often unsung, bread roll).
We say, about time too.
Because, let’s be honest, if the tired, floppy old pancake can have a day named after itself, then the mighty Hot Dog is long overdue 24 hours to call its own.
At Porky Whites, we’ve got the perfect way to celebrate such a momentous meat-based day of devotion. And unlike some of our more enthusiastic American cousins, it doesn’t involve dressing up as a giant hot dog for the day (imagine the carnage that causes on the bus to work).
No, all you need is a trusty barbecue (although an ordinary oven grill will suffice. But come on, make an effort, this is NATIONAL HOT DOG DAY!) and most importantly, a packet of our very own Porky Dogs. These are our famous hot dog–inspired sausages. Made from prime cuts of juicy British Pork, these beauties have got a lightly smoked flavour which make them an altogether superior pedigree of hot dog. Weighing in at a mighty 100g each, it’s the big sausage with an even bigger taste. Smokin’!
How you dress it up is entirely your choice. You could go the good old US of A way and smother it in chilli and melted cheese. Perhaps even shouting ‘Yeeha!’ and ‘Awesome!’ in between huge mouthfuls. Like we said, this is National Hot Dog Day – THERE ARE NO RULES!!
Or because we’re British and a little more reserved (not to say, cultured) how about treating your mouthwatering Porky Dog to the warm embrace of a posh ciabatta roll, lovingly garnish it with rocket and then brazenly smother it in lashings of caramelised onion marmalade.
Hot diggidy dog, we’re getting hungry!
Of course, you don’t have to use Porky Dogs. If you’re one of those crazy maverick types, (loving your beard, by the way) you could even go rogue and use our Porky Whites Surrey Sausage in your hot dog.
These premium pork sizzlers were silver medalists in this year’s Meat Management Industry Awards to find Britain’s Best Sausage. Up against all the big boys, that’s like little Woking Town finishing runners-up in the Sausage World Cup!
So if that isn’t an excuse for firing the barbie up on July 23rd, frankly we don’t know what is.
