“The Woking Community Grocery is officially open!”
These were the words of Dub Everitt as the ribbon to officially open the Woking Community Grocery was cut in April 2026!
As a bridge between food banks and supermarkets, the Woking Community Grocery’s goal is to help keep families from all walks and all situations fed.
There have always been food banks and support for those in need, but the Woking CommunityGrocery is something different, something so much more than just a place to get food. It's a place to find support and empower those in need to by giving them a hand up not a handout.
Dub Everitt, who oversees the Woking Community Grocery said; “It's a desperate situation that this is needed in Woking, but it is a real privilege. But for us, we want to be a solution. We want to be a helping hand to people.
We’re about offering a hand up rather than a handout. We want to help restore dignity and we want to provide a helping hand so that people can begin to sort of retake control of their lives and their finances and their budgets and that sort of thing. It's been a real privilege to open the door"
Why is the Community Grocery needed?
Even though Surrey is widely regarded as one of the wealthiest counties, it is also home to communities experiencing significant deprivation and financial hardship, many of whom despite being in full time employment still struggle to put food on the table. This is why the WokingCommunity Hub exists and although still in its infancy, it has set an ambitious target to sign-up and support up to 1000 Woking families in its first year.This might sound a tall order, but with referrals from the local council, child services and other family and food charities the Community Grocery is well on the way to reaching this target.
How the Woking Community Grocery Works
To become a member, simply visit the venue, let one of our team know it’s your first time and complete a short form and pay an annual membership of just £1.
There are different sized shops available from £5, with each item in store being worth a certain number of points.
Small shop: £5 (12 point shop)
Medium shop: £7.50 (18 point shop)
Large shop: £10 (24 point shop)
Extra-large shop: £12.50 (30 point shop)
Being a Community Grocery member means you can shop in store multiple times each week, helping you save on your shopping budget, and you can shop in other store locations.
How is Porky Whites supporting the Woking Community Grocery?
After being made aware of the initiative through an event with Woking Chamber of Commerce, Porky Whites felt compelled to support the Woking Community Hub so committed to an initial launch package before agreeing to a regular supply of products from the Porky Whites premium retail range.
Head of Marketing Paul Van Wymeersch said; “As a resident of Woking this community project matters and I’m hugely privileged to be able to give back in such a practical way. As a family-owned and run business Porky Whites is known for producing quality sausages that bring the family to the table – something everyone deserves even if times are hard.”
